60 Persons Lose Eye Sight at An Eye Camp by An NGO in Gurdaspur Punjab

After the recent muddled sterilization camp in Chhattisgarh, similar traumatizing incident came in lime light in Punjab. At least 60 persons have strayed their eyesight after an operation was done at an eye camp organized by an NGO in Gurdaspur district.All 16 persons belonging to Amritsar villages and remaining from Gurdaspur district were admitted in city ENT hospitals of Amritsar and Gursdaspur. Confirming this incident, Deputy Commissioner Amritsar, Ravi Bhagat said that all 16 suffered patients admitted to the city ENT Hospital were under the guidance of Assistant Professor Karamjit Singh. According to him, all of them have permanently lost their eyesight.

Ravi Bhagat addressed that a high-level inquiry has been ordered to find the doctors who has executed the operations at the camp. All the patients were operated at an eye camp in Ghuman village of Gurdaspur district around 10 days before. The incident emerged when all the 16 patients, who belonged to Amritsar village, addressed Deputy Commissioner Bhagat to file a complaint against the NGO and concerned doctors. The cataract surgery in the eye camp was percolated under severe contaminated condition whereupon eyes of all the 60 patients were found damaged permanently. Bhalla said that all the affected patients were more than the age of 60 with poor economical condition. They were being offered with free medical treatment in the ENT hospital of Amritsar and Gurdaspur.
