A Study Prevalent to Internet Addiction Affecting 6% of Population Globally

Prevalence for Internet addiction ranges from as low as 2.6% in Northern and Western Europe to s high as 10.9% in the Middle East.

According to the recent study revealed, nearly 6% of people worldwide are suffering from internet addiction. This has directly or indirectly affected person’s health as well as the interpersonal relationships. According to the research conducted by researchers from University of Hong Kong showed total internet addiction prevalent figures nearly 164, with overall 6% affecting globally. This data was recorded from 31 countries with more than 89,000 individuals.Prevalence varied from 2.6% in Northern and Western Europe to 10.9% in the Middle East. This holds an inverse affect on the human relationship as well as quality of life. Internet addiction is an impulse-regulatory problem which is determined by an inability to inhibit internet use which can adversely affect a person’s life.

On recording the data from Asia that includes India, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea, about 7.1% people were found to be addicted to the Internet. According to Editor-in-Chief Brenda K Wiederhold, Interactive Media Institute, San Diego, California and Virtual Reality Medical Institute, Brussels, Belgium, “No support for the hypothesis has been obtained that high Internet accessibility promotes IA”.
