Anti Tobacco Drive: Challans of Over 40,000 were Issued by Delhi Government

Challans of Rs 40,000 isuued by Delhi Government on Authorities and Public for Violating Laws

On Sunday, the Delhi Government has issued challans of more than Rs 40,000 to all authorities including New Delhi Railway Station for selling banned tobacco products.On the occasion of ‘Dry Day For Tobacco Drive‘ the Health Department of Delhi Government has sensitized 500 people including general public and staff of various departments on tobacco-related issues and has filed a total of Rs 43,350 challans. According to Dr S K Arora, Additional Director Health, Directorate of Health Services, “Few illegal advertisement boards were removed from tobacco vendor shops and a strict warning has been alleged on them.” At the same time few challans were also issued for violation of law at the point of sale. He further addressed that, “people should avoid consuming tobacco completely, not because of fear of getting challans, but due to the fact that it cause havoc to your health”.

Challans of Rs 3,850 were made for violations by public as well as challans of Rs 25,200 were issued in the name of ISBT authorities for multiple violations. Inspections were done on two platforms at New Delhi railway stations – Platforms 1 and 14. Large number of violations was observed among the staff of the railway stations. As a result, an amount of Rs 14,000 was issued in the form of challan in the name of New Delhi railway Station authority.

The officials further addressed that this activity was conducted with the support of police and representatives of concerned departments, with entire activities focused especially at ISBT, Kashmiri Gate and New Delhi Railway Station in Central Delhi. The drive was especially focused on ban on direct or indirect advertisement of tobacco products, ban on smoking in public places and warning regarding ban on sale of tobacco products to minors.
