They can be responsible of different physiological processes, which includes immune function, stress resistance, and even reproduction. Feed additives include feeding attractants, immunostimulants, prebiotics, probiotics, acidifiers, essential oils, or other inclusions, additives that don’t usually require nutrients.
Before their launching in the EU market, a new feed additive must be controlled and must get prior authorization if they meet some standards. These last include the safety and efficiency of the new additive and also the verification of the adverse effects on human and animal health and on the environment that they can convey.

As the animal welfare conveys its body’s state and its feelings, feed additives remain the most complete approach to promote a livestock which care about the animal’s well-being. For human reasons, giving feed additives to the animals constitutes a great approach to improve its behavioral outcomes such as its willingness to work, and also its behavioral signs of fear or frustration. Only these additives gather the natural plant extracts for animal nutrition and health. In fact, these are products that are specifically used to animals to improve the quality of food from animal origin, or to expand the animal’s performance and health.
In that sense, feed additives can be used to enhance the digestibility of the feed materials. They can also contribute to naturally calm the animals like the Durelax, to compensate for the oxidative stress like the Nor-grape 80, to contribute to the coccidial risk management like the Norponin XO or even to stimulate the growth of lactic acid bacteria such as the Nor-Spice AB. These are examples of standardized, documented and efficient feed additives that mainly address the main issues of welfare and animal health.
