Your bathroom may seem like the most boring room in your house—it doesn’t have to be! You can make it a place where you escape and relax, an oasis in your own home. If you’re considering renovating or making some changes to your bathroom, think of these five tips for designing a fresh space.

Use Natural Lighting As Much as Possible

Natural light helps to reduce stress and anxiety. It improves mood and energy, which increases productivity and promotes better sleep. There are several ways you can incorporate natural lighting into your bathroom.

If you already have a bathroom window, hang up wall-mounted mirrors to reflect sunlight into the room during daylight hours. This will increase the amount of natural light in the space and add a nice aesthetic touch. Search design webpages for inspiration as to how you can arrange multiple mirrors for a unique flare.

If you do not have a window in your bathroom, consider installing one. There are several options as far as size and shape. Some individuals use rounded windows or skylights. If you want as much light as possible, but also want to retain privacy, consider adding a privacy film. These come in different varieties, with some mimicking stained glass and others a dull frost. If you want a large window, these are great options.

Incorporate Calming, Warm Colors

Warm colors evoke a sense of serenity, relaxation, and well-being. They create a calm atmosphere that helps you unwind after long stressful days at work or school. Lighter examples of warm colors are cream, beige, and peach. Darker Warm colors include teal, olive, and rust.

If you are looking for a simple renovation, consider adding pops of warm color instead of painting or adding tile. This can be done with shower curtains, bath mats, or soap dispensers.

Feel free to work within your budget.

However, if you want a completely new space, look into warm-colored paints, fixtures, and tile. It’s a good idea to pair warm colors together. For instance, if painting the walls teal, aim to have cream-colored fixtures.

Keep It Clean and Organized

Having a clean bathroom is a wonderful feeling. A restroom is inviting when it’s clutter-free, well-organized, and smells fresh. Consider purchasing organizational tools, such as shelves or storage that can fit under the sink. Try and only keep the essentials on your bathroom counter.

Anything you can place in a drawer is best kept there to retain organization and a clean feel. Additionally, consider buying fragrances for your space. This can be easily done with wall plug-ins or oil diffusers.

Add Some Plants

Plants are known to bring a peaceful touch to a space. You might be worried about caring for them in a bathroom environment, with on-and-off humidity and perhaps less light. However, some houseplants will do just fine!

Bamboo is an easy plant to incorporate into a space. These shoots not only match most color schemes, but they also have a way of invoking calm. There are a variety of shades and lengths to choose from and it is relatively easy to purchase locally.

A larger plant to consider is the Chinese evergreen. These plants have beautiful variegated leaves and can typically thrive even if you don’t have a green thumb! These are great with minimal sunlight and humidity.

Do a Full Remodel

If you have the funds, a complete remodel of your bathroom could be the best choice. Perhaps your shower is outdated or you want a more luxurious tub, this is a way to make your space the oasis you deserve. Reach out to a local contractor, like Midwest Bath Company, to get ideas on how to best renovate. They can give you an idea of which products fit your size dimensions, as well as what is within your budget.

A spa-like bathroom is a place to relax, unwind, and escape. It’s a sanctuary that can give you the rejuvenation you need to recharge and get away from it all. Creating a spa-like experience in your home may seem like an extravagant dream. However, there are many things you can do to create an atmosphere that will make it feel like one, from adding accessories such as candles or scented room spray to using soft lighting throughout the day. These tips will help create a relaxing environment where you can truly unwind after spending time on life responsibilities.

These are the top five tips to create an oasis in your bathroom. Hopefully, these tips will help you make the most relaxing place in your home. If you don’t have the budget yet for a complete renovation, start by adding some fluffy new towels and candles. You’ll be surprised at how big of a difference a little change can make!
