Indeed, Chennai wears its grandeur and rich history on its sleeve in a manner of speaking! Tourists prefer Chennai for the multitude of attractions that the city possesses along with an indelible charm of its own. If you are in Chennai, you will love visiting the Marina Beach which is the country’s longest beach and this will prove to be a hugely relaxing activity. You can also visit Elliot’s Beach or Besant Nagar Beach which is home to the Schmidt Memorial landmark as well. Other popular beaches include the Breezy Beach and VGP Golden Nagar Beach. Chennai is also home to some of the most famous temples in the country, namely the Shirdi Sai Baba Temple, Kapaleeshwarar Temple, Vadapalani Andavar Temple and Parthasarathy Temple.

The Chennai Rail Museum and Government Museum are iconic museums in Chennai. The Madras Museum is another famous landmark in the city. The city has the Birla Planetarium in tandem with Fort St. George or White Town, Palatial House, Chepauk Palace and the Chettinad Palace. The St. Thomas Cathedral Basilica Church is a famous landmark in Chennai along with the San Thome Basilica and St. Andrew’s Church.

Some of the famous memorials and monuments for tourists include the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial, MGR Memorial on Marina Beach, Victory War Memorial, Anna Memorial, Kannagi Statue, Valluvar Kottam and the Napier Bridge. Some of the biggest amusement parks like Queens Land, MGM Dizzee World and Kishkinta Theme Park are also situated in Chennai. Other landmarks include the Chennai Central Railway Station, Connemara Public Library and Madras High Court. You can also visit major tourist hotspots like Mahabalipuram, Kanchipuram, Vellore and Pondicherry from Chennai.

Narayan, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Indra Nooyi, the CEO & Chairperson at Pepsico, Venu Srinivasan, Chairman & MD at TVS Motors Limited, CV Raman, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Vishwanathan Anand, the famous Amritraj Brothers and a galaxy of top businessmen, politicians, sportspersons, scientists, litterateurs and more. Popular film personalities from/living in Chennai include Kamal Haasan, Mahesh Babu, Shivaji Ganesan, Dhanush, Padma Lakshmi, A.R. Rahman, M.G. Ramachandran, Vijay Yesudas, Ilaiyaraja, Mani Ratnam, Vyjanthimala, Hema Malini, Sridevi, Rekha, S.P. Balasubramaniam and Arvind Swamy to name a few. Of course, Chennai is also home to arguably India’s biggest superstar along with Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth. Chennai is the hub of Kollywood or the Tamil film industry which is one of the top movie industries in the country. The Kodambakkam area is the hotspot for the regional film industry in Chennai.
