Skincare is part of everyone’s daily routine. We all try our best to keep our skin looking youthful and fresh, and we’ll go to great lengths to keep it that way. Our skin is the first thing people notice about us and we want to put our best face forward.

It can be overwhelming to choose a good skincare product with all of the options available. The best thing to start with is to narrow down the options a little bit: should you go with natural or conventional skincare products?

Natural skincare products may be a bit pricier than conventional products, but if you’re on the fence about whether you want to purchase them or not, here are five benefits of natural skincare.

1. No Artificial Ingredients

Most conventional beauty companies don’t have to follow any regulations on what goes into their products, whereas natural skincare companies have strict guidelines about what constitutes a natural ingredient. Natural ingredients are proven to have no adverse effects on the body, and often work to improve various bodily functions.

You won’t get any artificial scents with natural skincare, either. Many conventional brands use chemicals to create scent, and that can cause issues with migraines and sinuses. Natural skincare products don’t usually have scents, and if they do it’s derived from natural sources.

2. No Skin Irritants

Many of those artificial ingredients can cause allergic reactions in people. People who use conventional beauty products often find that they get rashes and acne flare-ups because of the harsh chemicals. Using conventional products can give you good results for a little while, but over time will cause problems in your skin.

Natural skincare products don’t contain any of those nasty chemicals, and they work with the body to promote healthy skin. Your pores won’t get clogged, and your skin will balance and heal itself.

3. Better Health Benefits

It’s pretty common knowledge that your skin is your biggest organ. Your skin absorbs whatever is put on it, and what you put on it eventually ends up in your bloodstream. Whatever you put on your skin can have an adverse effect on the way your body works, depending on whether it is natural or not.

Many conventional skincare products contain chemicals and toxins that are harmful to the body. Conventional products often contain ingredients such as parabens, phthalates, formaldehyde, lead, and mercury, to name a few. These ingredients have been known to cause various issues such as cancer, hormone disruption, and immune system disruption.

On the other hand, natural skincare products often contain beneficial essential oils, minerals, and vitamins. These supplements work with your body to heal it and promote a well-running system.

4. Lower Cost

This may be a strange statement to you, considering the price tag on most natural products is higher than their conventional counterparts. Natural products are usually designed to be long-lasting, and since the ingredients are designed to improve your skin you may find that in the long run you are using products less often.

5. Lower Environmental Impact

The chemicals that we use every day have an impact on the environment, often negatively. Those chemicals can seep into the air and water, killing fish and animals and harming the environment. The manufacturing process of conventional products can be hard on the environment, as they require things like aluminum and lead, and mining those ingredients causes a lot of pollution.

Natural skincare products often use organic ingredients, and the farming process for these is sustainable and uses no harsh chemicals. When you’re washing your face you don’t have to worry about chemicals going down the drain and into the water source.

Shopping Advice

Next time you’re shopping for skincare products, take a minute to read the back of the bottle and see what ingredients are listed. If you’re uncomfortable with anything listed, put it back on the shelf and look for something more natural. Your skin and your body will thank you, and you’ll be well on your way to looking fresh and youthful.
