The storyline of movie highlights the struggle of middle aged man Lakshmi, played by Akshay Kumar potraying Arunachalam Muruganantham, in making sanitary pads available in a country like India where talking about sanitary pads is considered to be a taboo subject. From the beginning of his marriage, Lakshmi is always looking out to impress his wife. One day, he saw her wife using a rag cloth which he do not even consider to use to clean his two-wheeler. This really startled him and he is curious to know why his wife is using it instead of a sanitary pad.
Asking his wife about the rag cloth she is using, his wife promptly replied that she too know about sanitary pads but if she started using it then we have to cut the milk budget of the family. Lakshmi later on understand the relation between sanitary pads and the milk budget which is affordability. This is the starting of the fire of Lakshmi’s career. He thought to make sanitary pads for his wife which will affordable and can be used by many other women in India like his wife. In the journey to become the padman of India, he looses the support of his wife as her wife leaves him and his village even banished him out. At this time, Lakshmi is all alone but he does not loose hope and carried on to his journey.
Later on in the story, he met Sonam Kapoor who has been potrayed in the movie as the girl who has helped Lakshmi to rise from the bottom. Lakshmi soon found out the machine which made sanitary pads and decided to install them in villages to support the women employment and the use of sanitary pads with the vision of making India 100% pad using country. This idea later on worked and ladies of villages started believing in him. Lakshmi after a lot of sacrifices and struggles is able to set up the machines in more than 200 rural town giving employment to household women around the country. The goverment of India, even the elite institution IIT acknowledge his work and honored him with padmashri and a lot of various awards making an ordinary man, the PADMAN of India.
The movie is going to release on 26th Jan, 2018 but because of Deepika Padukone’s Padmaavat movie request, Akshay Kumar postponed PadMan release date. Now PadMan is coming to theatres on 9th February, 2018 which is directed by R. Balki. This revolutionized movie does not seem to let people’s hope down as the message incoded with it carries the future of India and a lot of inspiration to the young people to stand out for their motherland serving their mothers, sisters. As said by Lakshmi in the movie, “mother’s great, sister’s great then country’s great”.
