Your windshield is an integral part of you being able to safely see the roadway. If you can’t easily see out of it, you won’t be able to clearly see the dangers that may lurk ahead. Properly caring for your windshield can go a long way in improving your driving and keeping you and your passengers safe while you’re on the road. Here are some windshield care tips that you should utilize to help you be a better driver.
Replace Your Wipers
Windshield wipers need to be replaced periodically. If they leave smudge marks behind when wiping away rain or dirt, or if you aren’t able to remove debris off of your windshield when you are using them, they need to be replaced. Fortunately, windshield wipers are inexpensive, so you can easily change them yourself without having to take your car into the shop.
Get Windshield Repair
Road debris can hit your windshield while you are driving and cause chips or cracks. Even if the damage is small, you still need to have auto glass repair done. Cracks and chips that are left uncared for can easily get bigger. They can spread into your line of sight, which can make it difficult to see the roadway clearly.
Additionally, they compromise the integrity of your windshield making it more likely to shatter. Even a simple fender bender could destroy a damaged windshield and require windshield replacement. Taking care of windshield repairs early can help prevent costly replacement.
Keep Wiper Fluid Filled
Many drivers forget to check the levels of their windshield wiper fluid. They don’t realize that it’s low until it’s time to use it, and they discover that there isn’t any available. Make it a habit to check your wiper fluid about once a month. This will ensure that you are able to clean your windshield whenever you need to.
Clean the Inside
The windshield on the inside of your car can get smudged fairly easily. You might not notice it needs to be cleaned until the sun is beating through the windshield, you’re on the road, and it’s difficult to see through the windshield. You can keep this from happening by cleaning the inside of the windshield on a weekly basis. Just make sure you use glass cleaner or wipes that don’t cause streaks.
Don’t Park Under Trees
Many people park their cars under trees in order to try to keep them cool and shaded. Unfortunately, a lot of damage can be done to your windshield by falling branches. Even twigs can cause scratches or chips that you will need to have repaired. Because of this, you should avoid parking under trees if at all possible. It’s better to park out in the open and use a sun shade for the inside of your windshield if you are trying to keep your car cool.
There are numerous things that you can do in order to care for your windshield. You shouldn’t take windshield care lightly as a windshield with poor visibility can put you and your passengers in harm’s way.
