Marketing trends come and go every year, with new fads and new technology bringing in lots of new ideas – some work and some just fall along the wayside. When marketing your business, it’s important to keep on track with genuine trends so you can stave off the competition, while avoiding the expensive gimmicks that simply don’t work.

We interviewed the marketing manager of www.promotionswarehouse.com.au and asked for their prediction of the techniques you should be incorporating into your marketing to help beef up your campaigns during 2018. So, here they are…

Quality Content

Quality content which sets you up as a respected expert within your industry is still the primary marketing tool for 2018. Whether you write a blog, run a website, or set up social media video content, the quality is the most important factor to set you apart from the competition.

You need to create regular, new, good quality content which will drive people to your company and products. Content which shows potential customers how you understand what their problems are and how your products can help to make their lives easier.

Video Content

With more and more people having less and less time, and spending more and more of it surfing the internet, video marketing is on the rise. A video is quick, easy to watch and can convey a lot about a company and its branding compared with a leaflet, in a very short space of time. Videos are the most popular posts being shared across social media channels nowadays so you need to get in on the video revolution to help keep your business at the forefront.

Mobile Marketing

With so many people now surfing the net on their mobile phones, playing games on them and only really opening an actual computer at work, you can’t market effectively without considering a mobile marketing strategy. Making sure your website is mobile-friendly for a start, is an essential part of business nowadays. Text campaigns, apps and mobile ads are all options which can be part of an effective mobile marketing strategy.

Competitions and Giveaways

People love getting something for free so holding competitions and giveaway prize events is a great way to secure the details for prospective customers – they sign up to take part so you can gather their personal data.

Also, if you make your competition a bit quirky then you will also benefit from word of mouth marketing as people talk about the event, giving your brand a free boost as well.

Email Campaigns

Email marketing is a great way to get your message across to your list of interested and potential customers – just make sure what you are sending is of value and of interest to them. You also need to be aware of changes in the law coming into force in May this year, around the way people’s personal data can be collected and used. However, there is still a place for email marketing in any strategy as it can help drive people to your website and your offers.

Improve your SEO

If you have had your website up and running for six months or more, it might be worth reviewing your content and SEO just to give the pages a quick refresh. Google and the other search engines look for fresh content so if your pages have remained stagnant updating them could help you’re your site back up the rankings. Carry out some keyword research to find out what potential customers are searching for – this is easy to do using free Google AdWords tools. Once you have identified the keywords, check your website to see if your content reflects those searches and if it doesn’t it might be time to refresh some of the wording to bring it up to date.

Social Media Sharing

Social media is still a great way to market any business so part of your content strategy should be to make sure every piece of content that you create gets shared as broadly as possible across all of your business social media channels. You can break larger articles up to create several posts and don’t forget you can share videos and images as well.

Increase Use of Imagery

With social media channels like Instagram and Pinterest relying on visual appeal, this is a good time to review your business branding and aim to make it more visually appealing. There are many free graphics programmes which can help you design social media visuals so get creative.

2018 is the year to boost your marketing campaign with quality content, video and imagery, to enable your customers to find your brand and understand how you can help them achieve their goals with your products and services. There are many marketing channels out there which you can use – it’s a case of focussing on the techniques which best match the needs of your customers.
