If you’re not sure what a signature scent is, or how to find the one that’s right for you, never fear! We’ll help explain it in this handy guide, so read on!
What Is My Signature Scent?
How you smell says a lot about your personality, and it can help you make a good first impression on others. If you smell clean and fresh for work every day, it makes you seem more professional and tidy. On the other hand, if you go in smelling rank, people might assume you don’t take good care of yourself.
Your signature scent is the perfume or cologne you’ll wear most often. You want it to be something that is personal to you, and smells how you want to smell to others.
Since there are so many different kinds of perfumes and colognes out there, there are tons of options for everyone, but it can also be harder to choose the one that’s best for you.
Types of Scent Profiles
There are a few different categories, known as scent profiles, that most perfumes and colognes fall into, although some combine profiles. Knowing which scent profiles you like best can help you narrow down your decision on what makes the best signature scents.
- Floral: all kinds of flowers, such as rose or lavender
- Musky: think earthy, sultry scents, heavy and intoxicating, different types of musks for men and women
- Woody: smells like a walk through a cedar and pine forest, good for men and women
- Citrus: fruity smells that skew younger and more feminine, but can work well when combined with other scents
- Spices: think about what goes into your spice cabinet, like cinnamon or vanilla
You’ll also want to consider having more than one signature scent for different occasions, such as a light floral or citrus for during the day, and something more heavy and musky for a night out on the town.
When you’re testing the perfumes out, give them time to settle to find out how it smells on you, and make sure you like it. If you’re looking for some options to get you started, you should check out these luxurious scents from Dolce & Gabbana at perfume price
Types of Perfume
Perfume for men is usually called cologne, and perfume for women is usually called perfume, but there are actually different types. There are different names for perfumes based on their concentration, as well as how long they last.
Parfum is the strongest and has the highest concentration. It will last for about six to eight hours in most cases. Eau de parfum is the second strongest and will last for about four to five hours. Eau de toilette is less strong, lasting two to three hours, and eau de cologne and eau fraiche will each last about two hours.
Knowing what type of perfume you need and how long it should last can help you determine your signature scent.
