Have you ever wondered what do the symbols 3G and 4G refer? 3G denotes Universal Mobile Telecommunication System standard with maximum download speed 384 Kbits/s and 128 Kbits/s maximum upload speed. The 4G is Long term Evolution with 100 Mbits/s download speed and 50 Mbits/s upload speed. Its advanced version has 1 Gbits/s download speed and 500 Mbits/s upload speed.RK Bahuguna, Chairman and the MD of Railtel Corporation of India announced that wi-fi or local area wireless technology could be a 4G connection for computerizing rural India.

He made an announcement that wi fi could be 4G for rural India while articulating at the CEO Roundtable on the Aegis Graham Bell Awards 2014 supported by Cellular Operators’ Association of India. 4G LTE is the fast network connection available in India. An ambitious National Optical Fibre Network project has been commenced by the government that especially aims towards administering broadband connectivity to 2.5 lakhs gram panchayats in India by March 2017.

In the year 2012, the government has already completed a leader project in three major villages of Tripura, Rajasthan and Odisha in order to adjoin blocks through wi fi. While more than 200 4G deployments have already taken place worldwide, but has not yet taken off in India.
