IP address conflict is a widespread problem; we all face this problem very often. Usually, we see a similar message which reads, “Windows has detected an IP address conflict.” This plays a spoilsport for us, especially when we are in the middle of something fundamental.

IP address conflict leaves us with no internet connection, or if you are still connected, it cannot be used. While some of us can solve the issue quickly if we have access to 192.168.1.20 with routerlogin.one, others might be clueless about what to do next. Here we are to tell you some of the quick fixes for all the possible IP address errors.

What Is The IP Address Error, And Why Does It Happen?

First of all, let us explain the problem and the reason behind it. IP address errors generally occur when two systems are connected to the same address. When two systems are related to the same IP address, both the system loses its connectivity, and hence none of them can be operated until the problem is resolved.

So how to resolve such an error if it ever happens with you?

Begin With The Basic

As we all know, there is one standard solution to every computer-related problem, and that is to restart/reboot your system. This simple move might resolve the issue most of the time, but if the question remains then, it might be a bigger problem.

Usually, most of the IP errors are solved by rebooting the system, basically rebooting a system will reassign the IP address, and your order will start working again. Although this is the most recommended solution, many complain about it being time-consuming. As the system reboot takes a lot of time and therefore, they do not prefer using this method.

Manually Configure The Address

As mentioned above, rebooting the system might take a lot of time to reassign the IP address, so here is another way to do it. You can manually configure and assign different IP addresses to the two systems. To manually configure the system, you need to manually enter IPCONFIG /RELEASE and IPCONFIG /RENEW from a command prompt.

This is precisely what rebooting the system does, but it takes a lot of time. Hence by manually configuring the system, it resolves the error by reassigning different IP addresses. If you are good with computers, it won’t take much of your time to solve the problem. If the problem persists, then check out the next step.

Find Out The Conflicting Devices

Another method to solve the error is by finding out the two tools that obtained the same IP address. For this, you need to check the connected devices to your Wi-Fi router. This depends on your router model, check the connected devices. Usually, all the tools are assigned different addresses, but sometimes, due to some technical glitch, two methods get a current address.

While checking if you find two devices are operating on the same IP address, congratulations, you have been successful in finding the culprit. All you need to do is refresh the IP address, this will assign a new address to your system, and the problem is solved.

Restart The Router

Even after trying all the methods as mentioned earlier, the problem is not solved. Then before consulting a technician, you need to do one more thing. Just restart your Wi-Fi router, sometimes due to technical glitches, your router might malfunction and cause IP address error.

Rebooting a router will clear the connectivity issue, and all the connected devices will be reconnected in proper order, with none of them having a universal IP address. This is a simple method to solve the problem instantly without any need for technical knowledge about computers and networks.

Check Your Router Firmware

If you are good with software and connectivity, then you can also try this step, this might be a little complicated, but it usually solves the problem. You need to check the firmware on which your router runs. See if it’s updated with the latest firmware or still using some old software. Routers with outdated firmware tend to make such IP address errors.

To update the router, you need to log in to the firmware update option. This also depends on your router model as some companies provide auto-update, while others ask you to download additional files and upload them in the system. If you are unable to find any firmware update, you can check out the website of your router manufacturer.

You Are Well Informed Now

So, now that you are well informed about how to solve the problem of IP address error, you can try and resolve the issue at home by yourself if not quickly. There is no harm in learning something and becoming a little wise. If you are not able to solve the problem even after trying all the above methods, we are here to help you out.
